The sweet sounds of success

Central TAFE graduate band 6000 Red has cracked the big time in the world’s toughest music market with their song "I wanna be like you" being chosen to promote the new US TV show Lipstick Jungle.

The Electronic duo, consisting of Geoff Baker and Seanne Chamberlain, met and started performing whilst studying a Certificate IV in Music Performance at Central TAFE.

The pair discovered a taste for the same music and had written their first song within a fortnight.

Their music was picked up by Hollywood agent Isabel Pappani at the 2007 WAMi Business Conference who brought it to the attention of the producers of Lipstick Jungle.

The song was used to promote the show in the weeks leading up to its launch.

“The opportunity this opened up was amazing,” said Geoff.

“We had a week where millions of people where listening to our song on a daily basis, which is the sort of exposure you dream about as a musician.”

The band, which has already developed a following in the WA music scene and is known for dynamic, multi- media laden shows, is now working on building a national profile.

“We are currently writing our first full length CD and have just returned from a host of east coast gigs,” said Geoff.

“We have also been working with other artists to explore how we can extend our show into new areas for live electronic bands.”

Central TAFE Managing Director Neil Fernandes said: “Geoff and Seanne have already established themselves on the local music scene and this achievement will open doors for them across the world, allowing them to build on their already impressive body of work.

"I look forward to watching what this impressive and inventive group come up with in the future.”

Central TAFE’s Music Industry courses develop practical skills and knowledge in the recording, mixing and editing sound as well as business skills such as communicating with artists, bands and management to create a product for the marketplace.
